During the Rupture, previously sealed caves deep beneath the earth's crust, known as the Viridian Vaults were cracked open. Magic seeped back into the world, evolving the earth's mutated fauna further, and allowed spirits to take form on our material plane.


Animals & Spirits - Appearance differences


Leading up to the Rupture, earth's fauna has suffered centuries of mutations from exposure and adaptation to radiation and chemical waste from human industry. Animals are still made from organic material.

Spirits, however, are amalgamations of various materials corresponding to their Resonance type, appearing more as elementals held together by the mana of the spirit.




Spirit Mechanics


Spirits occupy separate dimensions parrallel to earth's material plane. They are naturally drawn to our plane of existence, and are even more so after the Rupture. Maguses of the Council of Thorns theorise that this is due to our plane being an equilibrium that soothes spirits.

Each spirit has an average amount of time based on their observed volatility before dissipating, causing their shells to break down and for them to return to their home plane.


There are currently 11 observable planes, scaling in volitility of observable spirits.

1 additional plane on either extremes that are beyond known means of observation.

12 - Pure Energy?
